Oils, waxes, herbs, fruits and aromatic plants have been used by people around the world for centuries. Some were traded across enormous distances. Some became part of beauty and personal care traditions. Others picked up stories, folklore and old wives' tales along the way.

ACROSS LANDS brings three very different products together, with ingredients connected to Morocco, Mexico, India, Arabia, East Africa and the Mediterranean.

ELEMENTAL — Face Oil

If you've never used a face oil, the idea can sound strange. Why put oil on your face when you're already using a moisturizer?

If you've always used a face cream, you might be surprised by what a few drops of face oil can do. Elemental helps soften and smooth dry, tight-feeling skin, leaving it feeling comfortable and moisturized without the heavier feel of a cream.

Apply a few drops to clean, slightly damp skin and massage in. Made with argan, jojoba and rosehip oils, along with bergamot, lavender and coffee oils. Argan oil has a long history in Morocco, where it has been used for generations in everyday life and personal care. Some of my customers also love using Elemental on their beards.

NUDE — Unscented Lip Balm

Simple, smooth and unscented, NUDE glides on easily and leaves lips feeling soft and comfortable without a sticky finish. There is no added petroleum or synthetic fragrance.

NUDE is made with avocado butter, cocoa butter, castor oil and candelilla wax. These ingredients come from plants with long histories of use across the Americas and other warm regions of the world, brought together here in a simple everyday lip balm.

RELIC — Special Edition Soap

My newest soap, made with moringa, frankincense and marjoram, with a warm, subtle earthy character.

Moringa has roots in the Indian subcontinent, while frankincense comes from parts of Arabia and East Africa. For centuries, frankincense travelled along trade routes into the Mediterranean, where its distinctive fragrance was highly valued in incense, perfumery and ceremonial settings.

And then there are the stories.

People have been telling stories about plants and fragrant ingredients for a very long time. Some were believed to protect, purify, beautify or possess almost magical qualities. We can't present those old beliefs as scientific fact — and we won't. But they're fascinating pieces of history, and they tell us something about the people and cultures that used these ingredients.
